Volleyball Splits on Day 1 of Midwest Region Crossover

Hammond, Ind. - The University of Findlay volleyball team traveled west to meet up with the other 37 schools that make up the Midwest Region for the 15th Annual Midwest Region Crossover which is held at the Hammond SportsPlex in Hammond, Indiana on Oct. 13-14. The event is the nation's largest collegiate volleyball event held at one venue and features teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

On Day 1, the Oilers suffered a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19) defeat at the hands of Ferris State University, but in the final match of the evening the Oilers picked up a victory against the University of Indianapois by a score of 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 17-25, 25-16). With the split, the Oilers are now 14-5 on the season. Ferris State, which is unbeaten in GLIAC play, wsa 16-3 following the first match while UIndy fell to 14-6.

Findlay's leader offensively was freshman Hannah Miller who had 3.13 kills per set for the day, tallying 25 put aways. She began with 13 kills against Ferris St. and came back with 12 more in the win against UIndy. She also had a pair of blocks on the day.

As has been the case much of the year, Findlay's pair of sophomore middles played well. Alana Pohlman was second on the team for the day with 17 kills and hit .378, including a ten-kill, .500 performance against the Greyhounds in the evening session. Kenzie Hoelscher finished the day with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .275. The duo combined for nine blocks, as well.

Sophomore Lauren Foerster and freshman Kirsten Bomholt each had 16 kills on the day.

Junior Ava Doster and sophomore Emma White each had their serves working well, both picking up a total of five aces on the day. Doster led the Oilers on defense with 39 digs while White, Findlay's setter, totaled 85 assists.

The Oilers will face Michigan Tech at 3pm.
