Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's volleyball team took to the road to face the Ursuline College Arrows for the second time in a five day span. Findlay, who was recently announced as under consideration in the NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings, breezed to an easy 3-0 win (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) on Friday, Nov. 30. The loss leaves the Arrows with a 1-27 record on the year with a 1-15 mark in the conference. Meanwhile, with the win tonight the Oilers improve to 20-6 with a 13-3 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). This is their first twenty-win season since they went 24-7 in 2018.
As a team, the Oilers hit an impressive .245, recording 42 kills in 102 total attempts while making 17 errors. Meanwhile, they held Ursuline to a .104 hitting percentage. The Arrows recorded 27 kills on 96 attempts and also made 17 errors.
In the first set, the Oilers jumped out to an early lead. However, the home team kept fighting back. Ursuline ultimately tied the first set at 16 but a 9-3 run by the Oilers put the visiting team ahead by one.
Ursuline took a quick 5-1 lead to open the second set. Findlay would trail until they took the lead at 9-8. From there the match remained fairly close. With the score at 20-18 in favor of the Oilers, the Orange and Black would rally for five straight points to take the second set. The Oilers carried that momentum into the third set where they would breeze by the Arrows to take the match in three.
Freshman Hannah Miller played a well-rounded game for the Oilers tonight. She recorded a team-high 16 kills while hitting .323. Her 16 kills tonight marks a career-high for the Tiffin, Ohio native. She also led the team in digs with 12.
Also contributing on offense were freshman Kirsten Bomholt and sophomore Lauren Foerster. Bomholt record ten kills while Foerster chipped in seven.
Running the offense was sophomore Emma White. Before tonight's contest, White was ranked third in the nation for total assists, just 26 behind Division II leader Olivia Olson of Central Missouri. She added 32 assists to that total tonight. White also recorded eleven digs in the win.
Freshman Miya Ellerbrock recorded two aces for the Orange and Black. Sophomore Kenzie Hoelscher also recorded two aces and led the team in blocks with four.
With just three regular season matches remaining, Findlay hit the road again, Saturday, Nov. 4, as they head to Painesville, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Storm. That game is scheduled to begin at 12pm.
