Lakeland, Fla. - The University of Findlay men's basketball team dropped their second of two games in the state of Florida on Sunday, Dec. 17, suffering an 84-69 defeat at the hands of the Barry University Buccaneers. That loss gives the Oilers a 3-7 record on the season while Barry improves to 7-3.
In similar fashion to yesterday's loss against event host Florida Southern, the first half was a dead heat as both teams battled for control. Through 20 minutes it was Barry who held a one-point advantage, Findlay's second consecutive one-point halftime deficit.Â
Like Saturday's loss, the Oilers went cold in the second half, shooting just 37% (13-of-35) in the final 20 minutes including hitting 3-of-15 (20%) from deep in that frame. On the flip side, Barry was not shooting much better, but controlled the glass in the second half to the tune of a 29-to-16 advantage. That included ten offensive boards for the Buccaneers which led to 18 second chance points.
Findlay's last lead came with 13:56 to play in the game when a triple by senior
Cameron Shaw put the Orange and Black in front 56-54. However, over the next seven minutes, the Bucs outscored the Oilers 18-4 to take a 72-60 lead, a lead that Barry would sit on over the waning minutes to secure the win.
The Oilers, which were outscored by a combined 35 points in the second half of the weekend's games, were led offensively by senior
Nathan Bruns who poured in 23 points on 10-of-15 from the floor. In the game Bruns moved into 11th on the all-time scoring list at UF, passing bt Martyce Kimbrough (2016-18). Bruns now has 1,652 points in his career.
Senior
Joey Edmonds scored ten points in 27 minutes of action while sophomore
Mason Brandt chipped in nine points and led the team with nine rebounds. Freshman
Will Aljancic scored seven in the game.
Findlay now will enjoy its' Christmas break before returning to action on December 29 for a home contest against the University of Michigan-Dearborn. That game will tip off at 5:30 pm.
