Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the no. 7 team in Division II on Wednesday, Dec. 6, welcoming the Gannon Golden Knights to Croy Gynmasium for the first time since 2016. The Oilers came up on the short end of a 66-45 score and fall to 4-4 on the year while Gannon, which scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, improves to 10-1.
Wednesday's contest was close early and saw Findlay trailing by just four through ten minutes of play. By halftime, the Oilers trailed by nine points despite shooting 0-14 from three-point range.
The shooting woes continued for Findlay who was never quite able to climb back into the game and went on to the 21-point defeat.
In the game, the Oilers hit just 13-of-52 (25%) from the floor including 2-of-25 (8%) from deep. From the charity stripe, Findlay took advantage of their trips, making 17-of-19 (89.5%).
Sophomore
Alyssa Ziehler led the way for the Oilers, scoring 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She also grabbed four rebounds. Senior
Kate Ellis was the leader in the boards, grabbing nine boards, seven of which were on the defensive end. She made 6-of-6 from the free-throw line to finish with eight points.
Freshman
Addisyn Freeman scored eight, as well, and grabbed four rebounds. Junior
Janae Hoying had six points and led the team with four assists.
The Oilers return to Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday, Dec. 9 when they play host to Ursuline College. That game will tip at 1:00 pm.
