Detroit, Mich.- The University of Findlay softball team went just north to take on GLIAC foe Wayne State University for a double header on March 22. The Oilers took the first game 4-2 before falling to the Warriors 4-3 in the second. The split gives them a 15-6 record on the season.

Findlay got a quick start to the day, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. In the top of the first, senior Olivia Carlton's double sent senior Avery Shepherd home to put the first point on the board for the Oilers. Then in the top of the second, senior Bailey Bates and freshman Alexys Antal were sent home by Shepherd's single to right field.

The Warriors would close the gap scoring two runs in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the fourth, Avery Shepherd once again sent Bailey Bates home with a double to left field. Both teams would then remain scoreless for the remainder of the game as the Oilers picked up their 15th win of the season.

Earning the win in the circle for Findlay was sophomore Emma Jones. She recorded two strikeouts and allowed just two runs on five hits.

In the night cap, the Oilers took control of the game early. Once again, they held a 3-0 lead after the top of the third. Findlay put up one run in each of the first three innings. Olivia Carlton sent freshman Kayla Dykin home with a double to right field. In the second inning, Avery Shepherd sent senior Kaitlynn Briggs home with a single to shortstop. With the bases loaded in the third inning, Kaitlynn Briggs walked, sending senior Makayla Cowan home to put the third and final run on the board for the Oilers.

From there, the Warriors recorded four runs on seven hits in the next three innings to take the 4-3 win.

Freshman Kora Navarro took the loss in the circle as she threw for 4.1 innings. She allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits. She walked two and struck out five.

Findlay will now turn their attention to conference play as they welcome Ursuline College to Marathon Diamonds on Saturday, March 25.
