Findlay Takes Down Lake Erie | Win 3-0

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay volleyball team got back to its' winning ways on Sunday, Sep. 17 with an impressive 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) victory over the Storm of Lake Erie College. The three-set sweep gives the Oilers an 8-2 record on the year with a 2-1 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Storm fall to 1-10 with an 0-3 record in the league.

The victory over Lake Erie is the ninth in a row for Findlay in the series, dating back to November of 2017. Of those nine wins, eight have been three-set sweeps with the Storm winning just one set.

Findlay got out to a quick 10-5 advantage in the first set and scored five of the final six points to take a 25-15 win in the opener.

Set number two did not start well for the Orange and Black as they would trail 8-2 early on. Later, trailing 12-8, the Oilers rattled off six consecutive points, three of which were consecutive aces by freshman Zoya Winkelfoos. Findlay would not trail the rest of the set or match, going on to victory by way of a dominating 25-12 performance in the final frame.

Freshman Hannah Miller was the leader in the kill category, picking up 11 in the match while hitting an impressive .455. It is her sixth double-digit kill performance of the season.

Sophomore middle hitters Kenzie Hoelscher and Alana Pohlman were stellar in the Oilers' victory. Hoelscher finished the match with eight kills with a hittng percentage of .500. She also had three blocks, a team-high, and five digs. Pohlman also chipped in with eight kills while hitting a season-high .700. She had a block, as well.

Winkelfoos led the team with four aces while senior Alissa Rhodes led the team with ten digs. Sophomore Emma White, the OIlers' setter, handled her position well, picking up 36 assists.

Findlay will hit the road to take on the Ashland University Eagles on Friday, Sep. 22. That match will begin at 6:00 pm.
