Oilers Defend Home Court vs Visiting Trojans

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay volleyball team defeated the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Friday, Sep. 29, earning a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) sweep over their conference foe from Tennessee. With that win the Oilers improve to 11-3 on the year with a 5-2 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Trojans fall to 6-10 with a 3-4 record in the G-MAC.

As the match began, both squads went back and forth, neither taking control of the match early on. Midway through the set, Findlay went on a 6-1 run that saw them take a 19-13 lead which was enough to carry them on to a first set victory.

Findlay never trailed in the second set after jumping out to a 7-2 lead to open up play. That momentum carried on as the home team would take the second set by a comfortable ten-point margin.

The Oilers trailed most of the third set, including a late 16-12 deficit after an attack error by freshman Hannah Miller. From then on, the match belonged to the home team as Findlay went on a 13-4 run to close out the match the included three kills by freshman Kirsten Bomholt.

Findlay would hit .223 in the match while Trevecca struggled, hitting just .095 while making 22 hitting errors.

Bomholt led the way for the Oilers' offense, picking up 13 kills, the only player in double figures. Sophomore Kenzie Hoelscher played well again as she hit .500 on 14 attacks, collecting seven kills. She also had four blocks, two of which were solo blocks, and one dig. Miller, sophomore Alana Pohlman, and sophomore Lauren Foerster each had five kills. Miller also led the team with 13 kills.

Sophomore Emma White, who currently leads the G-MAC and ranks 11th in the nation in assists per set, had 31 assists on Friday night.

The Oilers will be back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, Sep. 30 with a match against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. That contest will begin at noon EST.
