Findlay Bites Panthers in Homecoming Day Sweep

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay volleyball team had no issue with the visiting Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Saturday, Sep. 30 in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers won the match by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-22) to improve to 12-3 on the year and 6-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. KWC falls to 2-13 and 1-6 in the G-MAC.

Findlay had the advantage through the much of the first set and held a 19-16 lead late. A run by the Panthers saw the visitors take a 22-21 lead, but the Oilers closed with four of the next five points to seal the opening frame.

The second set was as dominant as the Oilers have been all year. Findlay lost back-to-back points just twice in the set and had a run of five consecutive points scored, pushing their 18-11 lead to a 22-11 lead late in the set.

Closing the match proved more challenging than the second set might have suggested as KWC battled, scoring four consecutive points of their own late in the contest, taking a 17-15 lead. However, Findlay snatched the lead back at 18-17 and would not trail the remainder of the contest.

The Oilers hit .242 in the match, picking up 37 kills as a team while the Panthers hit .126 and had 34 kills with 20 errors. Findlay was deadly from the service line, picking up nine aces, second-most in a match this season.

Freshman Kirsten Bomholt led the way with 11 kills. She also had two aces and three digs. Sophomore middle Alana Pohlman was great at the net, picking up nine kills on just 13 attemps (.692). She also had a pair of solo blocks.

Freshman Hannah Miller had a team-high 14 digs to go along with four kills while sophomore Kenzie Hoelscher had five kills.

Sophomore setter Emma White finished with 31 assists.

Findlay will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Canton, Ohio to take on the Walsh Cavaliers. That match will be on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6:00 pm.
