Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the Thomas More Saints on Thursday, Jan. 11 in Croy Gymnasium. In a back-and-forth affair, Findlay led at halftime but would ultimately come up short, falling by a score of 66-60. With the loss, Findlay falls to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Thomas More advances to 10-5 in the season and 6-2 in conference play.
The Oilers started off strong with sophomore
Alyssa Ziehler scoring the first two points of the game but the Saints got on the board soon after and for the rest of the quarter a back and forth between the two teams ending with Thomas More in the lead 13-11.
Findlay only scored 12 points during the second quarter, six of which were
Alyssa Ziehler, putting the Oilers just 12 points behind the Saints to end the first half.
Lauren Hapgood kicked off the half with two 3-pointers, both assisted by
Kate Ellis.
Kate Ellis continued to score seven points for Findlay during the third quarter and
Janae Hoying added seven points to the Oilers total during the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to land them the victory over the Saints.
Addisyn Freeman led the team in points with a total of 13 during play and was 100% from behind the 3-point line. Hoying followed closely with 12 points.
Alyssa Ziehler collected nine defensive rebounds and Ziehler and Ellis both went 100% from the free throw line.
The Oilers are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they host #2 Ashland University. That game will tip off at 1pm.
