Late Game Drama Sees Findlay Falter in Midland

Midland, Mich.- The University of Findlay men's basketball team suffered a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) defeat on Thursday, Jan. 18 on the road against the Northwood University Timberwolves. With the 60-58 loss, the Oilers fall to 6-10 overall with a 3-5 mark in the G-MAC while Northwood improves to 4-12 on the season with a 1-7 mark in the conference.

The Oilers got off to a slow start, going scoreless through the first four minutes of play. The next ten minutes continued to wreak havoc for the Orange and Black as Northwood took their largest lead of the night with 6:42 remaining in the half. Trailing by thirteen, Findlay pulled together a 9-0 run thanks to a triple by senior Joey Edmonds and three consecutive layups by freshman Will Aljancic. With the Oilers rally, the home team held just a five point lead heading into the half.

Findlay did fight back and take the lead with less than two minutes remaining in the second half, one they held for just over one minute. Northwood rallied yet again to hold a 60-56 lead with 1:14 on the game clock.

Senior Cameron Shaw knocked down back-to-back free throws to put the Oilers within two with 52 seconds remaining. Findlay then forced a shot clock violation to regain possession but a missed layup forced Edmonds to foul. In an one-and-one situation, Findlay caught a break as Northwood missed the first attempt. With three seconds remaining in the contest, a three-point try at the buzzer was no good as Findlay suffered the defeat.

Northwood's shot making was a big factor in Thursday's contest as the Storm made 25-of-59 (42.4%). On the other side, the Oilers struggled to hit, making just 21-of-62 (33.9%) including 5-of-18 (27.8%) from deep.

Aljancic was the Oilers' leading scorer as he poured in 20 points, his second 20-point game this season. He made 8-of-18 shots from the floor. Had grabbed a team-high ten rebounds to secure the double-double.

Edmonds chipped in with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc. He also led the team in assists with five.

Findlay will continue their series of road contests this Saturday, Jan. 20 with a game against Malone University. That contest will tip off at 3:00 pm.
