Women's Basketball Tops Ursuline | Win on the Road 67-60

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball has now won two consecutive contests with the latest win over the Ursuline College Arrows on Saturday, Jan. 27. Findlay, who is ninth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), took down Ursuline, the second ranked in the conference, by a score of 67-60. With the win the Oilers improve to 9-10 on the season with a 5-6 mark in league play. Meanwhile the Arrows fall to 15-4 on the season and 8-3 in conference play.

The first quarter started in favor of the home team as the Arrows jumped ahead 9-1 through two minutes of play. However, Findlay clawed their way back over the next five minutes, going on a 11-5 run to bring the game within two. Freshman Taylor Stanley hit a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the quarter to give the Orange and Black their first lead of the contest.

Two minutes into the second frame the momentum shifted in favor of Findlay. With the score at 24-24, the Oilers went on a 14-0 run which included five turnovers by the Arrows which Findlay turned into 5-of-7 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. The Oilers entered the half with a twelve point lead at 48-28.

The Oilers grew their lead by one in the third quarter. The Arrows cut the Oiler's lead to just five with a minute remaining but it wasn't enough as Findlay went on to secure the seven point victory.

On the day, the Oilers hit 20-of-55 from the floor (36.4%), including just 10-of-26 (38.5%) from three-point range, their best percentage from deep since their opening game against Lake State. Findlay held Ursuline to 22-of-65 (33.8%) from the floor and 12-of-40 (30.0%) from three. The Oilers capitalized from the free-throw line recording 17-of-23 while the Arrows hit just 4-of-6.

Freshman Taylor Stanley, who recently returned to the court following an injury, scored a career-high 17 points. She was 5-of-8 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from deep and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. The Cincinnati, Ohio native also added three assists and five rebounds. 

Junior Chloe Callahan scored 14 points in the win, nine of which came from beyond the arc. She also was a perfect 5-of-5 from deep. She grabbed four rebounds.

Sophomore Alyssa Ziehler led the team in rebounds grabbing twelve while also chipping in eight points. Junior Janae Hoying recorded a team-high five assists while adding seven points.

The Oilers will be back in action Feb.1 as they welcome the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans to Croy Physical Education Center. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30pm.
