Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Thursday, Feb. 1 in Croy Gymnasium. Despite scoring the first basket of the game, the Oilers would ultimately come up short falling by a score of 76-57. With the loss, Findlay falls to 9-11 overall and 5-7 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Trevecca Nazarene advances to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
The Oilers started off strong, with junior Janae Hoying scoring the first points of the game and putting Findlay in the lead. The advance was short lived as the Trojans scored soon after to tie and eventually surpass the Oilers in points ending the first quarter with a score of 19-9.
Findlay only scored 11 points during the second quarter, five of which were freshman freshman Taylor Stanley, leaving the Oilers behind the Trojans by 19 points ending the first half, 39-20.
Senior Lauren Hapgood started off the half with an unassisted jumper. Mackenzie Schulz scored 10 points in the second half, and Ella Mescher added four points to the Oiler's total in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to come back against the Trojans.
Freshamn MacKenzie Schulz led the team with 10 points during play, all of which she scored during the second half and was 100% from the free throw line. Lauren Hapgood and Mckenna Stephens each scored nine while Stanley scored eight. Sophomore Alyssa Ziehler and Janae Hoying each collected four defensive rebounds. Junior Mckenna Stevens had a total of three assists during play.
The Oilers will be back in action on Feb. 3 when they hold Walsh University. That game will tip off at 1pm.
