Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team faced off against Malone University on Thursday, Oct. 10 for a midweek Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match-up. The Oilers defeated the Pioneers in a high scoring affair, coming away with a 4-2 victory. With this victory, the Oilers have already matched their last season win total of seven with just under half of the regular season still to play. They have also secured their fifth conference victory, a mark that they have not reached since the 2019 season. With this victory, Findlay now sits at 7-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference.
The scoring was early and often in this conference clash as the back and forth first half contained five goals. Getting the scoring started for the Oilers was
Christian Palushaj. The senior found the back of the net in the fourth minute with the help of a beautiful passing display from
Joey Chirco and
Tyler Pawlicki. However, the Pioneers answered almost immediately with two goals of their own in the seventh and tenth minutes. This lead for the Pioneers would be short lived as in the 28th minute Findlay's
Brendan Ash drew a foul in the box, giving the Oilers a penalty shot opportunity. Taking the penalty was senior
Maciej Gaszynski, who missed the initial attempt but quickly corralled the rebound and quickly put away the second chance opportunity to tie the game back up at two. After this, it was all Findlay. Goals in the 44th and 81st minutes from
Carson Oberski and
Ryan Dickinson put the game on ice.
Standing out for the Oilers was sophomore
Carson Oberski, who provided a spark off the bench in his 54 minutes of play. His first goal of the season in the 44th minute proved to be the difference, and he also led the team with five shots on the day.
The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they take on Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro at 2:30 pm.
