Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team celebrated senior day on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a 1-0 win over #16 Tiffin University. This marks the first time Findlay has defeated a ranked opponent since they took down #23 Mercyhurst in 2019. With this win the Oilers have stayed scorching hot, securing their fourth victory in a row. Furthermore, Findlay has now taken over first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) standings. Following the victory, the Oilers record rises to 9-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference. With this loss the Dragons fall to 8-4-1 overall and 7-2-0 in conference.
The game was certainly a chippy one, not to be unexpected in a rivalry game with first place on the line. The total foul count of the game stood at 25, along with eight yellow cards and one red card given out over the course of the match. Overcoming the physical play was sophomore
Oliver Lindstrom who scored the in the 11th minute by way of a
Cooper Solomon pass. Although there would be 24 shots in this game, each team was only able to muster four shots on goal and Lindstrom's proved to be the difference standing as the lone goal in the game.
Standing tall in net once more for the Oilers was goalkeeper
Keegan Grant. The junior snagged another clean sheet as he turned away all four of the Tiffin attempts on goal. This brings Findlay's shutout total to four on the year.
The first place Oilers will be back in action in North Canton when they take on Walsh University on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 pm.
