Pohlman Sets Career-High in Oilers 3-1 Victory Over ODU

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay volleyball team got back in the win column on Friday, Oct. 4 with a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19) victory against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. That win moves the Oilers to 11-3 on the season with a 4-1 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while ODU, which plays in the South Division of the conference, falls to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in league action.

The Oilers jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the opening frame and continued to dominate, opening up an 18-10 advantage later in the set. The home team would finish the first with a .222 hitting percentage, but earned a six-point win.

Set number two was a challenge for UF which hit just .140 and made seven attack errors. With the score at 8-8, Ohio Dominican went on to score 11 of the next 15 points to open up an 18-12 advantage. However, seven consecutive points by the Oilers, a run that was capped by a kill from sophomore Hannah Miller, put the home team in front 19-18, their first lead since early in the set. It was the Panthers who put together the final run through as ODU rallied with six consecutive points and went on to a 25-23 win, tying the match at one set apiece.

Findlay never trailed in the third set and in the fourth, jumped out to a 15-6 lead, going on to a 25-19 win and earning the victory.

As a team the Oilers hit .236 for the match while ODU hit just .132.

Miller was the leader offensively, picking up 21 kills while hitting .304. The Tiffin, Ohio native, who has combined for 47 kills in her previous two matches, added three blocks and a team-high 14 digs.

Junior Kenzie Hoelscher was the only other player in double figures, securing ten kills while hitting .381. Junior Alana Pohlman had six kills and led the Oilers with a career-high nine blocks.

Setter Emma White had 41 assists and ten digs while senior Ava Doster had 13 digs. White also added five services aces.

The Oilers are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they play host to the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. That contest will begin at 1:00 pm.
