Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Defeat to #25 Hillsdale

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay volleyball battled #25 Hillsdale College in Croy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in a match that featured the top two teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) North Division. The Oilers lost by a score of 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 26-28, 25-17) and fall to 12-4 overall with a 5-2 mark in G-MAC play. Hillsdale improves to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the league with the victory.

The Oilers dropped the first set after a string of 14-of-19 points by the Chargers put the visitors firmly in control at 22-14. In the second set, Findlay led 16-13 midway through but surrendered seven-of-nine points to fall behind at 20-18. Hillsdale went on to win by three at 25-22.

Findlay finally broke through in the third set, staving off a pair of match points for Hillsdale, scoring the final three points to win 28-26. However, HC jumped ahead early and did not look back in the final frame, winning the match at 3-1.

As a team, the Chargers hit .289 while the Oilers managed a hitting percentage of just .190.

Sophomore Hannah Miller led the way for Findlay with 13 kills while freshman Stephanie Smith has 12 and junior Kenzie Hoelscher had 11. Smith hit .360 while Hoelscher hit .364. Junior Alana Pohlman had nine kills and led the team with four blocks.

Senior Ava Doster had 15 digs to lead the team and junior Olivia Pearce had 11. Junior Emma White recorded 46 assists.

The Oilers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a match with Northwood University. That contest will start at 4:00 pm in Croy.
