Preview: Men's Soccer G-MAC Tournament Semifinal

The Game
The University of Findlay men's soccer team has advanced directly to the semifinals of the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Soccer Championship, after earning a bye in the quarterfinals.The Oilers, seeded second in the event now face the number-six seed, Thomas More University.

The contest, which kicks off at 11:00 am on Thursday, Nov. 14, will take place at The Paradiso Athletic Fields on the campus of Tiffin University. The semifinal match pits the Oilers against the Saints. The two teams have faced each other only twice in program history, with the Oilers holding a slight edge, holding a 1-0-1 record. Earlier this season, they tied 0-0.

Findlay Oilers (10-4-3, 10-3-1 G-MAC) | #2 Seed

The Oilers are 10-3-4 on the season and concluded Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with a 8-2-4 mark. They are currently ranked third in Super Region III.

Findlay enters the semifinal match, averaging 2.18 goals per game, the best in the conference. Meanwhile, they hold their opponents to an average of 0.94 goals per contest, ranking second-best in the conference. 

Senior Brendan Ash is at the forefront of the Oilers' offensive efforts, leading the Orange and Black with seven goals scored this season. He is averaging .412 goals per contest, the ninth-most in the G-MAC. Sophomore Oliver Lindstrom is also an offensive threat from midfield, scoring six goals this year.

Despite injury, senior Maciej Gaszynski has been a strong offensive presence as well, adding six goals this season. Notably, eleven other Oilers have also contributed goals, showcasing a well-balanced offensive effort.

Junior Keegan Grant has been a steady presence in goal. The goalkeeper has logged 1,347 minutes in net, holding a 8-3-4 record. He has accumulated 62 saves while allowing just 14 goals for a save percentage of 0.816, the best in the conference. 

About the Opponent –  Thomas More Saints (8-9-2, 7-5-2 G-MAC) | #6 Seed

The Saints enter the tournament with a 8-9-2 record on the season with a 7-5-2 mark in conference play. Thomas More advances to the semifinals after a 3-1 win over the third-seed, Ashland. 

Thomas More enters the tournament averaging 1.37 goals per game while allowing opponents 1.47 goals per game.

Leading the offense is junior Will Fox with five goals, while senior Finn Battenstein has contributed four. Charlie Allan is a key playmaker, topping the team with six assists. Impressively, ten other Saints have also scored this season.


In goal for Thomas More, is junior Emilio Benmergui Rodriquez who has recorded nearly 1,600 minutes in goal. He has allowed 28 goals in 18 games, recording a save percentage of 0.714.
