Painesville, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team took on Lake Erie College on Saturday, Nov. 2. After a hard fought battle for 90 minutes, the game would end in a 2-2 draw. With this tie and some help from a Kentucky Wesleyan loss, the Oilers have secured the second seed in the Great MIdwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament, guaranteeing a first round bye and trip to the semifinals. With the tie, Findlay's record now stands at 10-2-4 overall and 8-1-4 in conference play, while Lake Erie advances to 8-7-2 overall with a 7-5-1 mark in league play.
It was a tale of two halves in the game, as the Storm came out hot in the first half with goals in the 1st and 20th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Oilers would not give in, however, scoring two goals in the 49th minute to deadlock the game at the eventual final score of 2-2. For the Oilers it was sophomore
Carson Oberski who found the back of the net first, quickly followed by senior
Cedrik Rodach who scored under 30 seconds later.
Although the game would end in a draw, the Oilers dominated in the shot count, out shooting the storm by a count of 17-7. Leading this offensive effort for the Orange and Black were senior
Mitchell Hanosh and Oberski, who recorded four shots a piece. The downfall of the Oilers would be the shots on goal, as only four of these 17 shots were able to be on target.
The Oilers will be back in action at Tiffin on Wednesday, Nov. 6, when they take on the Dragons at noon.
