Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team won their home opener against Lake Superior State on Friday, Nov. 2 by a score of 79-40. This marks their ninth straight victory over the Lakers of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while bringing their record to 2-2 on the young season. Meanwhile, Lake Superior State falls to 0-1 to start their season.
The contest was back-and-forth through six minutes of play, but Findlay would rally to take a 24-13 advantage through ten minutes and did not look back, eventually leading 45-20 at the half.Â
In the last 20 minutes, the story was much more of the same with the Oilers bullying Lake Superior State to the tune of a 39 point differential.Â
Findlay made 31-of-66 (47%) from the floor while holding the Lakers to just 13-of-68 (19.1%). The Oilers connected on just 3-of-20 (15%) attempts from deep while dominating on the glass, out rebounding Lake Superior State 53-to-37.Â
Seniors
Kate Ellis and
Janae Hoying scored 13 points to lead the way for the Oilers. Ellis was 6-of-9 from the floor while Hoying was 5-of-6, including 1-of-2 from deep. Ellis also led the team-high seven rebounds.Â
Sophomore
Allie Stockton reached double-digits scoring with eleven points while grabbing six rebounds. Junior
Ella Mescher recorded ten points.Â
The Oilers return to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9 as they face Saginaw Valley State University at 5pm.
