Volleyball Stumbles at Hillsdale

Hillsdale, Mich. – The University of Findlay volleyball traveled to Hillsdale, Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 9 to take on the top team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), the Hillsdale College Chargers. The Oilers were defeated 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) and fall to 17-8 on the season with a 9-4 record in G-MAC play. Hillsdale improves to 19-3 overall and 12-1 in the league.

The two teams were tied at nine early in the first set, but HC would score six-of-eight points to take control of the frame, going on to win by eight.

Set number two was similar as, again, the two teams were split at 9-9. Hillsdale scored six of the next nine points and later, scored six consecutive points, extending a 17-14 lead to 23-14 in the blink of an eye.

Trailing by two sets already, the Oilers got behind 17-12 in the third frame and, despite pulling to within one at 22-21, lost the final set.

Hillsdale hit .324 in the match and Findlay hit .178, making 23 hitting errors compared to just seven by the Chargers.

Junior Alana Pohlman and sophomore Hannah Miller led the way, each with 14 points scored. Miller had 14 kills to go along with nine digs while Pohlman had 12 kills and three blocks. Junior Kenzie Hoelscher had eight kills.

Findlay will be back in action to wrap up the regular season on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16 with games at Kentucky Wesleyan and Thomas More, respectively.
