Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team hosted its' final Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game of 2024, hosting the Northwood University Timberwolves on Monday, Dec. 16. Holding off a second-half comeback effort, the Oilers came away with a 72-62 victory to improve to 8-3 on the year with a 3-1 record in the G-MAC while Northwood falls to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Findlay opened with a 12-2 run to open up a ten-point advantage through the first five minutes. In that stretch, Northwood was ice cold, making just 1-of-7 from the floor. That theme would continue through the remainder of the half for the Timberwolves, while finished the first 20 minutes shooting just 10-of-32 including a dismal 0-of-12 effort from three-point range.
On the flip side, the Oilers hit five triples, led by senior Chloe Callahan who had three, to take a 38-23 lead into the half.
The Timberwolves did not go away quietly as they used a 15-7 run to open the second half and cut Findlay's lead down to seven at 45-38.
Still hanging on to a seven-point lead, Findlay sophomore Allie Stockton got a layup and a foul, giving the Oilers the momentum back and putting the home team back in front by double digits. Similarly, again with a seven-point lead with two minutes to play, a triple from the left wing by sophomore Taylor Stanley was the dagger, making the score 70-60.
Senior Kate Ellis, who currently ranks seventh in the G-MAC in scoring, led all scorers with 18 points, hitting 8-of-14 from the floor. She also grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.
Picking up her first double-double of the season, junior Alyssa Ziehler tied a season-high with 14 points and grabbed a season-best 12 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. Senior Janae Hoying and Callahan each chipped in with 11 points.
Leading the defense was sophomore Allie Stockton who tallied five steals to go along with five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Findlay is back in action on Thursday, December 19 when they play host to the Purdue Northwest Pride. That game will tip off at 5:30 pm.
