Late Surge Lifts Malone Over Oilers 79-74

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team faced off against Malone on Thursday, Dec. 5 for the Oilers first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match-up of the year.   Using a surge in the second half, the Pioneers would defeat the Oilers by a score of 79-75.

With the loss, Findlay now stands at 5-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.  Malone rises to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Orange and Black would get off to a fast start offensively, outscoring the Pioneers 24-17 and shooting 11-18 from the field.  However, the story of the game would be the three point shooting display from Malone, as they were lights out from beyond the arc.  The Pioneers would finish the game connecting on 15 of their 29 attempts from three, for a percentage of 52%.

Findlay would be unable to match, shooting 3-15 from three for a percentage of 20%.  Despite the shooting struggles, the Oilers would lead by one with just under a minute to play, this lead would be erased by a three from Malone's Kyli Horn, who hit the dagger with 49 seconds to play.

Leading the Oilers offensively was grad student Kate Ellis, who finished the day with 26 points on 6-12 shooting.  Along with a strong scoring performance, Ellis would add four rebounds and three assists.

Also with a strong showing for Findlay was junior from Utah, Sofia Mokofisi.  She would finish with a season high 14 points with a perfect 7-7 shooting performance from the field.  Mokofisi would also record a new season high in rebounds with six.
