Women's Basketball Wins at Walsh 68-61

North Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team continued Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with a road trip to Walsh University. After dropping their conference opener just two days ago, the Oilers rebounded with a 68-61 victory over the Cavaliers. With the win, Findlay improves to 6-3 on the year and moves to 1-1 in league play. Meanwhile, Walsh falls to 4-4 on the season with a 2-2 mark in the G-MAC.

The first quarter ended in a 13-13 tie, but the Oilers pulled ahead in the second with a strong run of six unanswered points, capped off by a three-pointer from senior Chloe Callahan. Findlay extended their lead to 11 points with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter, though Walsh rallied late to narrow the deficit, leaving the Orange and Black with a seven-point advantage at halftime.

Walsh closed the gap to one with 2:56 left in the third quarter, but Findlay quickly regained control, scoring nine straight points to rebuild a ten-point advantage. A late three-pointer by the Cavs trimmed the lead to seven.

Findlay's largest lead came in the fourth quarter when junior Alyssa Ziehler hit a jumper with four minutes remaining, extending the margin to 13 points. Walsh couldn't mount a comeback, sealing the victory for Findlay.

As a team the Oilers shot 23-of-63 (36.5%) from the field including 5-of-20 (25.0%) from deep. Walsh recorded a similar stat line recording 22-of-61 (36.1%) from the floor and 7-of-28 (25.0%) from beyond the arc. The key difference between the teams was turnovers, with the Oilers forcing 17 and converting them into 17 points. In contrast, Findlay committed just 10 turnovers, their second-lowest total of the season.

Leading the offense was senior Kate Ellis who recorded 16 points, shooting 5-of-12 from the floor. Six of those points came from the charity stripe. She also recorded five rebounds and two assists.

Callahan came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points, while Ziehler contributed eight points and four rebounds. Sophomore Addisyn Freeman led Findlay on the glass with nine rebounds.
