Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Third Quarter Hiccup Leads to Malone Loss

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team welcomed the Malone University Pioneers to Croy Gymnasium for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup on Saturday, Feb. 10. In a contest that came down to the wire, Findlay suffered a 62-60 loss. The Oilers fall to 11-12 on the season with a 7-8 record in the league. Meanwhile, Malone improves to 14-9 on the year with a 10-5 mark in the G-MAC.

The first quarter saw back-and-forth action that ended with the Oilers leading by a mere point. Findlay opened the second quarter with a 15-6 run that put them ahead ten with just five minutes left in the half. However, Malone then answered back with a run of their own to pull ahead by two heading into halftime.

The third quarter, which has wreaked havoc often this season for the Oilers, did so again today. Findlay scored just seven points which included a nearly seven minute stretch in which the Oilers did not score. With that, Malone took an eight point lead heading into the final frame.

Malone took their largest lead at eleven with seven minutes remaining. The Oilers then went on a 9-0 run that was capped off by a three pointer from senior Kate Ellis which put the Orange and Black down just two with five minutes remaining. Findlay was never able to overcome that small deficit, ultimately taking the two point loss.

On the day, the Oilers hit 23-of-55 from the floor (41.8%), including 10-of-22 (45.5%) from three-point range. Meanwhile, Malone hit 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the floor and 10-of-25 (40.0%) from three. The Pioneers won the battle on the glass, out rebounding Findlay 37-26.

Leading the Oilers was freshman Addisyn Freeman who recorded nine points and four rebounds. She was 4-of-7 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep.

Sophomore Alyssa Ziehler was the leading rebounder with six. She also chipped in eight points. Senior Lauren Hapgood, freshman Taylor Stanley, senior Kate Ellis, and freshman MacKenzie Schulz also all added eight points of their own.

Findlay will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 17, as they travel to take on the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville. That game will tipoff at 2pm.
