Colorado Springs, Col. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team kicked off their spring trip on Tuesday, Feb. 27 with a game against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With this 13-9 victory the Oilers record improves to 1-1 on the season.
UCCS started off the game with two goals within the first five minutes. With three minutes left of the quarter, the Oilers tied the score at 2-2, but it wasn't enough to pull ahead by the end of first quarter which ended 3-2 for the Mountain Lions.
During the second period, junior Olivia Alvarado and sophmore Tessa Chuba each scored to tie the game at 4-4. After a goal by UCCS, Findlay ripped off five unanswered scores, taking a 9-5 lead into the half.
The Oilers came out swinging in the third quarter, only allowing the Mountain Lions to score once with three minutes remaining ending the quarter up by 11-7.
The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle between the two teams with both teams scoring twice but the Oilers came out victorious.
Tessa Chuba scored a whopping six goals for Findlay, grabbed four groundballs and caused two turnovers. Senior Madeline Shewbridge found the back of the net three times and had two assists. Junior Olivia Alvarado scored twice during play and had one groundball.
Seniors Paige Falk and Erin Kodger added one goal each to the Oilers final score. Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski made five saves during play
Findlay outshot the Mountain Lions 30-19 and made five less turnovers during play, and causing four more than their opponents.
The Oilers will be back in action when they face Colorado State- Pueblo Thursday, Feb. 29 at 4pm.
