Pueblo, Col. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team continued their time out west with an 11-9 victory over the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves in Pueblo, Colorado on Thursday, Feb. 29. With this win, the Oilers record advances to 2-1 on the season while CSU Pueblo, playing in their first game of the year, fall to 0-1.
Sophomore Tessa Chuba found the back of the net five times had five draw controls and had two groundballs and caused turnovers. Senior Madeline Shewbridge scored four times and had two assists. Junior Olivia Alvarado and Senior Erin Kodger each added a goal to UF's score. Alvarado also had three draw controls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Brinlee Barry secured four draw controls for the Oilers and had two groundballs and caused turnovers. Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski made a total of 13 saves, had one groundball and caused three turnovers to assist Findlay's win.
Shewbridge and Chuba started off the first quarter with a goal apiece to put the Oilers ahead 2-1. The Thunderwolves tied the score one minute into the second quarter, but Findlay came back and scored four goals in a row to take a 6-4 lead into the half.
During the third quarter CSU-Pueblo pulled ahead for a one-goal lead, but it wasn't enough to stop the Oilers who tied by the end of the third and added four goals to the score for the victory.
The evenly matched teams each had 12 draw controls and the Oilers outshot CSU-Pueblo 31-30. Findlay also caused four more turnovers during play.
The Oilers will be back in action Wednesday Mar. 6 at 3pm when they travel to Pennsylvania to face Slippery Rock University.
