Slippery Rock, Pen. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team traveled to Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 6 to compete against Slippery Rock University. The Oilers came up short against The Rock by a score of 20-5. With this loss the Oilers fall to 2-2 on the season while SRU improves to 2-0.
Slippery Rock started off the game strong scoring four goals in the first seven minutes of play.
Senior Madeline Shewbridge scored the Oilers first goal of the game and the only Findlay goal of the first half. The Rock went on to score eight more goals before halftime.
Shewbridge found the back of the net on a free position shot and just two minutes later, sophomore Tessa Chuba added to the Oilers score as well. In the fourth quarter Senior Izzy Murphy-Morrow scored her first goal of the season. With just nine minutes left of the game, Chuba scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Shewbridge, but it wasn't enough to come back against Slippery Rock.
Tessa Chuba and Madeline Shewbridge each had two goals during play. Chuba also had one groundball and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Elaina Smith had four groundballs and one caused turnover. Junior Olivia Alvarado, senior Paige Falk, senior Erin Kodger, senior Angela Ramsey, freshman Paige Miller each caused one turnover during play.
Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski had a total of 6 saves during play, out-saving Slippery Rock 6-1.
Findlay and Slippery Rock were tied 16-16 for turnovers and 8-8 for caused turnovers.
The Oilers will be back in action Saturday Mar. 9 at 12pm when they host Quincy University at home.
