Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay wrestling team took on the 19th-ranked Ashland University Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4 in Croy Gymnasium. Fresh off of a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, the Eagles came away with a 23-21 victory.

The Eagles scored first, picking up a win at 125 pounds, but the Roughnecks followed that with a big time run, starting at 133 pounds where senior Gavin Ritter needed just 2:42 to pick up a victory by fall.

At 141-pounds, senior Alex Epstein electrified the crowd as he needed just 19 seconds to pin his opponent, picking up six points and putting Findlay ahead 12-3. 

After a loss at 149, another pin came at 157. Sophomore Cade Cass trailed 6-3 heading into the decisive third period and was trailing 6-5 at the one-minute mark. Just eight seconds later he picked up pin, snagging a six-point win and putting his squad on top 18-7.

From then on the Eagles slowly chipped away, grabbing a pair of tech fall victories and an overtime sudden-victory along the way. Findlay trailed 23-18 going into the heavyweight bout and sophomore Giulian Bodiu won by a 4-1 decision, but it was not enough as Ashland maintained a two-point lead, securing the match.

Findaly is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 8 with a trip to Allendale, Michigan where they will take on Grand Valley State.
