Tiffin, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball took on the Dragons of Tiffin University in Gillmor Student Center Thursday, Feb. 8 for a matchup that dates back to 1984. Findlay now holds a 53-13 lead in the series as they added to that today, coming away victorious by a score of 60-38. With the win the Oilers improve to 11-11 on the season with a 7-7 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, Tiffin falls to 4-19 with a 2-12 record in league play.
The Oilers, who have now won four of their last five contests, closed out the first quarter on a six point run to put the Orange and Black ahead over longtime rival Tiffin. The second frame was lackluster as the teams combined for just 13 points but it was the Oilers who held a six point lead heading into the break.Â
Despite the Dragons opening the quarter with a layup to bring Findlay's lead to just four, the Oilers got hot, going on a 10-0 run to create a 14 point lead. From there the Oilers relied on that cushion and cruised to a 22 point victory.
On the night, the Oilers hit 23-of-56 from the floor (41.1%), including 6-of-20 (30.0%) from three-point range. Findlay held Tiffin to a mere 16-of-50 (32.0%) from the floor and 6-of-25 (24.0%) from three. The Oilers capitalized from the free-throw line recording 8-of-11 while never sending the Dragons to the charity stripe. Findlay also dominated the glass, grabbing an impressive 41 to Tiffin's 27.
The Oilers were led by junior Chloe Callahan who recorded twelve points, all of which came from beyond the arc. She was 4-of-6 from deep. She also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Alyssa Ziehler also grabbed nine rebounds while chipping in ten points.Â
Junior Janae Hoying recorded nine points in the win while leading the team with three assists.Â
Findlay will be back in action as they welcome the Malone Pioneers to Croy Physical Education Center this Saturday, Feb. 10. That game is scheduled to tipoff at 1pm.Â
