Findlay Kicks Off Day One of National Championship

Geneva, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams arrived at the Spire Institute, March 12 for day one of the NCAA Division II National Championship. The day featured just two relays- the women's and men's 800-yard freestyle relay.

Findlay's women competed in the event tonight. They took the pool in the first heat of the event as the team of sophomore Emily Mears-Bentley, freshman Sofia Lesmes Montes, sophomore Macee Reckard, and junior Abbie Kmet competed against the best in Division II. The team finished 14th in the event with a time of 7:28.27. Their time today broke the program record that was set this past December. Mears-Bentley's 200 free lead-off time of 1:48.75 breaks the previous program record that she set earlier this season.

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow as Emily Mears-Bentley, Troie Grubbs, Sasha Melnyk, Camilo Marrugo, Tim Stollings, and Matteo Filippi will look to qualify for the finals in their given event.
