Indianapolis, Ind. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced its' postseason awards for the swimming and diving season on Friday, March 27. The University of Findlay men's and women's teams had 20 athletes named all-conference.
The Oilers, which both won conference titles and went on to finish in the top eight at the NCAA DII National Championship meet, also secured five major awards including Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Year, Men's Co-Freshman of the Year, and Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
Women's Swimmer of the Year
Emily Mears-Bentley (Sr. – Leicester, England)
The Oilers' standout senior capped the greatest season and career in the history of Findlay's women's swimming and diving program in 2026, capturing her fourth consecutive Swimmer of the Year award. Mears-Bentley was a winner in five races at the G-MAC/MEC Championship, but what she did a month later is what cemented her legacy. At the National Championship in Evansville, Indiana, Mears-Bentley made history, earning first team all-American in seven events, four of which were individual races and three relays. That performance was highlighted in the 200 butterfly where she captured the women's program's first-ever national title on her way to leading the Oilers to a seventh-place finish, its' highest in program history.
Men's Swimmer of the Year
Camilo Marrugo (Gr. – Soledad, Columbia)
Another athlete who has been a mainstay on podiums in every year he has worn the orange and black, Camilo Marrugo capped his career with another memorable season in the pool. At the G-MAC/MEC Championship he was a winner in seven different races and was named the Men's Swimmer of the Meet for a third time. At the National Championship, Marrugo picked up first team all-American three times, all of which were individual races. Two of those finishes, the 50 free and the 100 fly, he was the national runner-up and in the 100 free, he took third. Marrugo also earned second team all-American in the three relay events in which he swam helping lead UF to an eighth-place finish, its' second-highest in program history.
Men's Co-Freshman of the Year
Juan Blandon Torres (Fr. – Cali, Columbia)
Making a statement in his first year with the program, Juan Blandon Torres earned Men's Freshman of the Meet at the G-MAC/MEC Championship after winning in both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay. He earned a trip to Evansville for the DII National Championship where he earned second team all-American in five events; the 800 free relay, the 200 medley relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay.
Men's and Women's Coach of the Year
Diego Santos
Leading the Oilers to the greatest combined season in program history, Coach Santos has now picked up G-MAC Coach of the Year on both the men's and women's sides in each of his three years at the helm. This year was historic as both teams won conference championships and went on to finish top-eight in Division II. The women won a fifth-consecutive G-MAC title and went on to take seventh at the National Championship while the men won a ninth-straight G-MAC title and took eighth at nationals. The squad that went to nationals went on to earn first or second team all-American in 26 different events.
