Findlay Falls in Close Contest to Lewis

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse fell to the Lewis University Flyers at home this Wed. Mar. 13 by a score of 16-12. With this loss the Oilers fall to 3-3 on the season while the Flyers improve to 3-2.

The game started with just over five minutes of back and forth between the two teams, ending when the Flyers scored the first goal of the game at 9:30. Just a minute later they scored again leading the Oilers by two. Shewbridge scored the first goal for the Oilers off a free position shot. LU scored two more goals ending the first quarter with a 4-1 lead.

During the second quarter, Lewis scored five goals in a row before Findlay came back and scored two in the last two minutes before halftime, ending the half down by six.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle with Lewis scoring just one more goal than Findlay and ending the 15 up 13-6.

The Oilers fought hard the fourth quarter, scoring two goals in the first minute and a half, six goals overall and only allowing the Flyers to score three times during the quarter. Although it wasn't enough to make a comeback and take the victory.

Lewis outshot Findlay 28-23. UF and LU were tied 8-all for saves. The Oilers controlled more draws than the Flyers (17-15).

Junior Olivia Alvarado found the back of the net three times, had one groundball and four draw controls. Senior Ally Bercaw, sophomore Brinlee Barry, Murrell and Alvarado each caused one turnover. Senior Madeline Shewbridge had three goals, assists, groundballs, caused turnovers and controlled one draw. Senior Angela Ramsey had two groundballs and one draw control during play. Senior Izzy Murphy-Morrow caused one turnover and had three draw controls. Senior Erin Kodger found the back of the net twice during play, had one assist and one groundball. Senior Paige Falk scored three goals during play and secured nine draw controls.

Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski had a total of eight saves and two groundballs during play.

The Oilers will be back in action when they travel to Buffalo, New York to face off against Daemen on Friday Mar.15 at 5:30pm
