Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Oilers Soar Past Golden Eagles | Win 16-9

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles this Sunday, Mar. 24 by a score of 16-9 at the Armstrong Sports Complex. With this win the Oilers record advances to 5-4 overall and the Golden Eagles falls to 4-5 as both teams move into conference play this week.

The game started off slow as neither team scored within the first five minutes. During a man-up play for the Oilers, senior Erin Kodger scored the first goal of the game. Charleston scored to tie the game and just one minute later, again to take their only lead during the game. Findlay found the back of the net three more times before the first quarter ended to take the 4-2 lead.

During the second quarter, the Golden Eagles fought back, tying the game twice, although Findlay remained in control, ending the half up by three. During the second half, the Oilers lead continued to grow, ending the third quarter up by five and the fourth up by seven, only allowing Charleston to score four goals during the second half.

Junior Olivia Alvarado, sophomore Tessa Chuba and senior Izzy Murphy-Morrow each scored three goals during the days competition. Chuba secured nine draw controls, had three assists, two ground balls and caused three turnovers. Alvarado caused two turnovers and had three ground balls. Murphy-Morrow had one assist, two ground balls, and secured one draw control. Seniors Paige Falk, Erin Kodger and Madeline Shewbridge added two goals each to the Oilers score. Falk secured six draw controls, one ground ball, and one assist. Kodger had three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Shewbridge had three assists, one draw control, three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Freshman Karissa Allbright added one goal to the Oilers score as well as one assist. On the defensive, Seniors Angela Ramsey and Ally Bercaw had three ground balls apiece. Bercaw caused three turnovers and Ramsey caused one. Sophomore Brinlee Barry secured two draw controls and two ground balls during play. Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski made a total of 10 saves during play.

The Oilers out shot the Golden Eagles 32-22 although Charleston made five less turnovers than Findlay (28-23). The Golden Eagles went 30-27 with the Oilers for ground balls although UF secured more draws than UC during play (17-12).

The Oilers will be back in action when they host Walsh Wednesday Mar. 27 at 4pm for their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game of the season.
