Lacrosse Opens G-MAC Play with Loss to Walsh

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team fell to the Walsh University Cavaliers this Wednesday, Mar. 27 in their first conference game of the season by a score of 16-9. With this loss the Oilers record is now 5-5 in the season and 0-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Walsh move to 6-4 and 3-0 in conference play.

Walsh started off the game scoring within the first minute of play and then again two minutes later to take the 2-0 lead. Paige Falk scored the Oiler's first goal of the game and with ten minutes left in the first quarter, Erin Kodger found the back of the net to tie the score, although it wasn't enough to push the Oilers ahead. The Cavs kept their lead through the second quarter, only allowing the Oilers to score once, ending the half up 10-3. Walsh went full-steam ahead after halt-time, scoring three goals in a row, and only allowing one Findlay goal, by Karissa Allbright. The Oilers ending the third quarter down, 13-5. Findlay won the fourth quarter 4-3, although it wasn't enough to claim victory against G-MAC rivals.

Freshman Karissa Allbright, seniors Izzy Murphy-Morrow, Paige Falk and Erin Kodger each found the back of the net twice during play. Falk also had one assist, one ground ball, cause one turnover and secured two draw controls. Kodger had one ground ball and caused one turnover. Murphy-Morrow had one assist, and two draw controls.

Senior Madeline Shewbridge also added one goal to the Oilers total. Junior Olivia Alvarado secured four draw controls, assisted one goal, and had two ground balls. Sophomore Elaina Smith caused one turnover and secured three ground balls.

Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski made a career-high total of 14 saves during play as well as causing one turnover and securing four ground balls.

Walsh out shot Findlay 35-18 and made two less turnovers than Findlay. The Oilers made 14 saves while the Cavaliers only made seven.

The Oilers will be back in action when they host Malone Saturday, Mar. 30 at 12pm.
