Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team defeated the Malone University Pioneers this Saturday Mar. 30 at the Armstrong Sports Complex.
Eight accomplished seniors were honored today before the game,
Erin Kodger,
Paige Falk,
Kaylee Ellis,
Angela Ramsey,
Madeline Shewbridge,
Izzy Murphy-Morrow,
Olivia Bakowski, and
Ally Bercaw. Thank you to these seniors for dedicating their time and talents to UF Women's Lacrosse program.
The Oilers won by a score of 17-4. With this win the Oilers record advances to 6-5 in the season and 1-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Malone falls to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Oilers started off the game strong, with a goal in the first two minutes by
Madeline Shewbridge, assisted by
Erin Kodger. Findlay continued to put points on the board, scoring four more goals before the end of the end of the first quarter. The Oilers continued to score in the second quarter and managed a shutout during first half, going into halftime 8-0 over Malone.
The Pioneers scored the first goal of the second half, but the Oilers answered with three more goals before Malone found the back of the net again before the quarter ended 13-2 for UF. Malone's Abbey Burns would score her third and fourth goal of the game during the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to come back against the Oilers, who came out victorious 17-4.
Senior
Madeline Shewbridge scored four goals and had an equal number of assists, as well as one ground ball and caused turnover. Sophomore
Tessa Chuba scored three goals, had two assists, caused three turnovers, secured five ground balls and four draw controls. Junior
Olivia Alvarado found the back of the net three times, had one assist, caused two turnovers, had one draw control and two ground balls. Seniors
Paige Falk,
Erin Kodger, Izzy Murphy- Morrow and freshman
Rebecca Chmiel added one goal each to the Oilers score. Falk also secured seven draw controls, caused two turnovers, had three ground balls and one assist. Kodger had one assist, one ground ball and caused two turnovers. Murphy-Morrow also had one assist and one draw control. Sophomore
Brinlee Barry secured two draw controls and three ground balls. Senior
Angela Ramsey secured five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Senior goalie
Olivia Bakowski scored one goal, had one ground ball and made a total of three saves during play and sophomore goalie
Rachel Esselstyn saved one goal.
Of the 17 Oiler goals that were scored during play, 12 were assisted. Findlay out shot Malone 42-11 and made eight less turnovers than the Pioneers. UF secured seven more ground balls and 12 more draw controls than MU.
The Oilers will be back in action Tuesday, Apr. 2 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Davenport at 4pm.
