Findlay Secures Comeback Win Over Quincy

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team played their second home game of the season, hosting Quincy University on Saturday, March 9 and claiming a 13-12 victory over the Hawks. With this win the Oilers record advances to 3-2 on the season while Quincy falls to 3-4.

Quincy started the game off strong, scoring two goals right off the bat. Soon after, Madeline Shewbridge and Tessa Chuba scored just two minutes apart to even the score. Even after a second goal in the first quarter from Chuba, the score ended with the Oilers down 5-3. During the second quarter, Findlay's lone goal was scored by Shewbridge, assisted by Izzy Murphy-Morrow, but the Hawks found the back of the net five times by the end of the first half.

Trailing 9-4 at the half, the Oilers came out swinging in the second half, on both offense and defense, scoring a total of six goals and only allowing one from Quincy to end the third quarter in a 10-10 tie. Murphy-Morrow, Shewbridge, and Olivia Alvarado scored the last three goals of the game to secure the win for the Oilers.

Senior Madeline Shewbridge had a standout game scoring five goals for the Oilers along with having three assists, securing one draw control, two groundballs and causing one turnover. Senior Paige Falk delivered a stellar performance on the draw circle, capturing eight draw controls during play.

Sophomore Tessa Chuba and senior Izzy Murphy-Morrow each found the back of the net three times during play and Chuba secured three draw controls and two groundballs. Murphy-Morrow also had one assist, three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Senior Erin Kodger had a great game, defensively, collecting four groundballs and causing three turnovers. Alvarado and Falk each also contributed a goal to the Oilers win. Senior goalie Olivia Bakowski had a total of 9 saves during play.

The Oilers outshot the Hawks 33-24, but Quincy out-saved Findlay 10-9. Findlay had 11 turnovers during play while Quincy had 15. QU secured 17 draw controls while the UF, 12. Both teams had five yellow cards called against them during play.

The Oilers will be back in action when they host Lewis at home on Wed. Mar. 13 at 3pm.
