Nashville, Tenn.- The University of Findlay's softball team traveled to the southern-most school in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) on Saturday, April 20, taking on the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans in a doubleheader in Nashville, Tenn. The Oilers split with the conference powerhouse, falling in game one by a score of 4-1 before snapping the Trojan's eleven game win-streak in the nightcap by a score of 4-3. With the split, the Oilers move to 24-18 on the year with an 11-9 mark in the conference. Meanwhile, Trevecca moves to 37-11 on the season with a 19-3 record in the league.
Game One (L 4-1)
Trevecca Nazarene wasted no time taking the lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. They later added one more in the third.
Findlay's lone run came three innings later. In the top of the sixth, sophomore Lainey Bingham singled to right field before junior Cassie Warner singled to shortstop. Senior Avery Shepherd then grounded out to the pitcher but both Bingham and Warner were able to advance. Sophomore Alexys Antal then grounded out to first base, sending Bingham home.
Findlay scored one run on just three hits. Meanwhile, Trevecca recorded four runs on five hits.
Sophomore Kayla Dykin took the loss in the circle as she threw just over four innings and allowed four runs on five hits. She walked six. She was relieved by sophomore Kora Navarro who threw 1.1 innings. She allowed no hits while striking out two.
Bingham, Warner, and Antal were the lone Oilers to record a hit.
Game Two (W 4-3)
Once again, the Trojans took to the board early putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The next three innings were scoreless on both sides before Trevecca put up one more run in the bottom of the fifth.
Findlay put their first run on the board in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a homerun by sophomore Kayla Dykin. Sophomore Annika Bredel then hit a homerun of her own in the top of the seventh which included three RBI and put the Oilers up by one.
Needing three outs to upset the home team, the Oilers retired three of the next four Trojans to take the win.
Senior Molly Pfiffner picked up the win in the circle. She pitched all seven innings allowing three runs on four hits. She walked two and struck out four.
Dykin and Bredel both recorded home runs in the contest while sophomore Jenna Poulson recorded two hits.
With the split today, head coach Danielle Lowe (2016-present) secured her 234th win at the helm of the program, making her the winningest coach in program history, surpassing Ron Ammons (2003-2015), who amassed 233 wins during his career.
The Oilers will be back in action as they take on the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan in a double header tomorrow, April 21.
