Findlay Advances to Final | Win Over Ashland 17-14

North Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team earned a trip to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship with a 17-14 win over Ashland University on May 2 in North Canton, Ohio. The Oilers, who were seeded second in the tournament, improve to 12-6 on the season. Meanwhile, the Eagles, who were the third-seed, end their season with an 11-8 record on the year with a 5-2 mark in conference play. 

The first half saw back-and-forth action as neither team took more than a two goal lead throughout. With the score tied at 8-8, Ashland opened the third quarter with three goals in the first four minutes. However, Findlay scored eight consecutive goals spanning the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, establishing a five-goal lead with five minutes left in the game. The Eagles would attempt a late game comeback but a goal by freshman Karissa Allbright in the final minute, sealed the 17-14 win for the Orange and Black.

Tessa Chuba, who was named G-MAC Attacker of the Year earlier today, led the Oilers offense with seven goals, matching her career-high. The first team all-conference selection, has now recorded 97 career goals, just three shy of becoming the ninth member of the 100 Goal Club. Chuba also led the team with twelve draw controls.

The second team all-conference selection, senior Madeline Shewbridge added three goals and two assists for a total of five points. Senior Erin Kodger and Allbright both recorded three goals in the win. Allbright led the team with two caused turnovers. Meanwhile, senior Paige Falk led the team with three assists.

Senior Olivia Bakowski, who was named G-MAC Goalkeeper of the Year, played all 60 minutes for Findlay. She recorded six saves.

For the third consecutive season, the Oilers will advance to the Great Midwest Lacrosse Championship Final. They will face the winner of the Walsh and Thomas More semifinal. The championship game will be Saturday, May 4.
