Houghton, Mich.- The University of Findlay's volleyball team continued play Friday, Sep. 13, at the UP Open taking on #7 St. Cloud State before #20 Michigan Tech later in the evening. The Oilers split, dropping the morning contest before picking up a dominating win in the nightcap. With the split, Findlay moves to 4-1 on the season.

Game One vs. #7 St. Cloud State
Despite forcing four sets, the Oilers fell by a score of 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24).

The Huskies came out strong, scoring the first seven points and riding that momentum to a swift 25-12 win in the opening set. In the second set, Findlay took an early 7-4 lead, but the game turned into a back-and-forth battle. With St. Cloud State ahead 20-19, the Oilers surrendered a 5-1 run, allowing the Huskies to claim the set. Facing a must-win in the third, Findlay rallied from a 21-18 deficit, going on an 8-1 run that included six straight points to force a fourth set. However, despite leading 22-19 late in the fourth, the Oilers couldn't hold off St. Cloud State's 8-2 surge, resulting in Findlay's first loss of the season.

Facing the seventh team in the nation, Findlay hit .150 in the contest, recording 44 kills and making 23 errors. Meanwhile, the Huskies recorded a .210 hitting percentage while amassing 57 kills and committing 27 errors.

Sophomore Hannah Miller led the Oilers with 11 kills, followed by junior Alana Pohlman with 10 and freshman Stephanie Smith, who notched a career-high nine kills.

Junior Emma White orchestrated the offense with 38 assists.

On defense, senior Ava Doster reached a milestone, recording her 1,000th career dig with eight in the match. Freshman Grace Auer led the team in digs with 12, while Pohlman topped the team in blocks with five.

Game Two vs. #20 Michigan Tech
Findlay picked up a dominating win against the home team, sweeping the Huskies 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17).

The Oilers maintained control throughout the first set, finishing with a 7-3 run highlighted by four kills from Miller. Their momentum carried into the second set, where, holding a 21-19 lead, Findlay went on a 4-1 run to close it out, capped by a service ace from Miller. In the third set, an early run gave the Oilers the advantage, and they held on to win the set by eight.

Findlay hit .434 in the contest, recording 51 kills and committing just eight errors. Meanwhile, they held the 20th team in the nation to a .255 hitting percentage, allowing just 35 kills and forcing ten errors.

Once again, Miller led the way for the Orange and Black. The Tiffin, Ohio native recorded 16 kills in the contest and hit a season-high .406. She also chipped in seven digs, and two aces. Pohlman and Auer both recorded double-digit kills with eleven and ten, respectively.

White, who is one of the country's leaders in assists, recorded 40 in the contest. She also had six digs.

Defensively, Doster led the team with nine digs. She also led the team in aces, tallying four.
