Volleyball Wins Conference Opener at Ursuline

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay volleyball hit the road once again as they traveled to Ursuline College for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener on Friday, Sep. 20. Findlay captured their twelfth consecutive win against the Arrows with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-10) victory in the nightcap. The Oilers improve to 7-2 on the year with a perfect 1-0 in G-MAC play while Ursuline falls to 0-10 on the year with a 0-1 mark in the conference. 

In the first frame the Oilers took an early lead thanks to three consecutive service aces from junior Kenzie Hoelscher. Findlay held that lead the entire way and would go on to take the first set 25-17.

After that opening set, the momentum stayed with Findlay which went on to win the final two sets with relative ease, leading by as much as six in the second and 15 in the third.

Findlay hit .310 in the match, including a match-high .406 hitting percentage in the third set. The Oilers held Ursuline to an .088 hitting percentage, but in the third and final set, had a hitting percentage of .000.

Sophomore Hannah Miller led the way for the Orange and Black. She tallied a team-high eleven kills while hitting .346. Junior Alana Pohlman had eight kills while hitting .375.

Freshman Stephanie Smith also had a good night for the Oilers, recording seven kills while junior Kenzie Hoelscher had six kills to go along with six service aces.

Helping run the offense was junior Emma White who recorded 36 assists in the contest while adding a team-high, seven digs. Freshman Grace Auer also recorded seven digs to go along with five kills.

The Oilers will continue on the road as they head to Painesville, Ohio for a G-MAC match with the Lake Erie College Storm on Saturday, Sep. 21. That contest is scheduled to begin at 4pm.
