Volleyball Wins 3-0 Over IUP

Indiana, Pa.- The University of Findlay volleyball team concluded a three day, three game road trip on Sunday, Sep. 22 with a non-conference match against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks. The Oilers swept the home team 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 26-24) to mark their fourth consecutive sweep. With the win, Findlay improves to 9-2 on the season while IUP falls to 10-3. 

Through the first frame, the contest was tight. With the score tied at 14-14, the Oilers used a 6-1 rally to take a five point advantage, one they kept the remainder of the set. Findlay won the first set 25-20, scoring its final two points on errors by IUP.

The Oilers had the momentum early in the second set as they jumped out to an early lead at 9-4. However the home team went on a run of their own to tie the score at 10-10. With the score at 20-18 in favor of the Orange and Black, the Oilers put together three unanswered points to take the advantage late in the set. A kill by sophomore Hannah Miller followed by an error from the Crimson Hawks gave the Oilers the second set, 25-21.

The Crimson Hawks, who were on a nine game win streak prior to the contest, pulled away with an 18-10 lead in the third set. However, the Oilers regained momentum, rattling off seven straight points to bring the set within one.With the Crimson Hawks up 24-23, junior Kenzie Hoelscher tied the game with a key kill. Junior Alana Pohlman followed with a block to give Findlay a one-point lead, and freshman Grace Auer sealed the third and final set with a service ace, clinching a 26-24 victory.

Findlay hit .364 in the match, recording 51 kills and making just 11 errors. They held IUP to a .231 hitting percentage while allowing them just 37 kills and forcing 13 errors. 

Sophomore Hannah Miller continues to lead Findlay offensively. The Tiffin, Ohio native recorded a career-high 18 kills. She hit .417 while also adding five digs. 

Junior duo Alana Pohlman and Kenzie Hoelscher also played well. Pohlman recorded nine kills while leading the team with four blocks. Hoelscher meanwhile had eight kills and chipped in five digs. 

Helping run Findlay's offense, junior Emma White amassed 36 assists. She also had nine digs. Leading the team in digs was sophomore Miya Ellerbrock who had 12. Senior Ava Doster contributed nine. 

The Oilers will be back on the road for their next two contests. They will take on Ashland on Friday, Sep. 27 before Tiffin on Saturday, Sep. 28.
