Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked no. 13 in the country, never trailed on Saturday, Jan. 11, defeating the Northwood University Timberwolves at home by a score of 83-64. Findlay now has a record of 14-1 with a perfect 7-0 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Northwood falls to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the G-MAC.
The victory is the tenth straight for the Oilers, its' longest win streak since the 2018-19 campaign, while its' 14-1 record to start the year is the best under head coach Charlie Ernst. It is also Findlay's ninth home victory of the season, already surpassing the total number of home wins put up by the team last season.
Tied at nine early on, a quick 13-6 run by Findlay put the home team ahead by double-digits. That lead continued to grow as the Orange and Black took a 44-29 lead into the half despite shooting just 44% from the floor and 29% from three. 12 first half turnovers by Northwood were crippling for the visitors which continued to hand the Oilers' extra possessions.
Findlay's lead eventually reached 25 points at 76-51 and the home squad would cruise to a 19-point victory to remain perfect in the conference.
The Oilers finished 32-of-70 (46%) from the floor including 8-of-23 (35%) from three-point range.
Freshman Ian Ioppolo led the scoring for Findlay, picking up 15 points on 6-of-14 from the floor including 3-of-8 from deep. Had also had five rebounds.
Sophomore Anthony Johnson scored 13 points and had a team-high six rebounds to go along with three assists while junior Jagger Landers and junior Max Roth each scored 11. Landers had four rebounds and a block while Roth had three assists and a team-best three steals.
Junior Mason Brandt scored nine points and had five rebounds.
For Northwood, Elijah Watson led the way with 17 points, but struggled with eight turnovers, all over which came in the first half.
Findlay's next game is a big one as the Ashland University Eagles come to Findlay for a matchup on Thursday, Jan. 16. That game will begin at 7:30 pm.
