Findlay Breezes by Ursuline | Win Ninth Straight

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team returned to their home court on Saturday, Jan. 11, after spending the past week on the road. The Oilers picked up their ninth straight win, this time taking down the Ursuline College Arrows, by a score of 77-55. With the win, the Oilers improve to 14-3 overall with a 7-1 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, Ursuline falls to 2-14 on the season and 1-7 in league play. This marks the Oilers' first nine-game winning streak since the 2017-2018 season. 

Findlay got off to a fast start in the opening frame, taking a quick 8-0 lead. The Arrows were able to close the gap, bringing the game within four with just under two minutes left but the Oilers ended the quarter with a seven point advantage at 21-14. 

A 9-2 run by the Orange and Black midway through the second quarter gave the Oilers a thirteen-point lead with just under two-minutes left in the frame. In that stretch that lasted just over four minutes, Findlay was two-of-five from the floor, including 5-from-5 from the charity stripe ultimately leading the Oilers to a 41-27 lead at the break.

Findlay extended their lead to 21 points in the third quarter by forcing six turnovers from the Arrows. Senior Janae Hoying spearheaded the effort, contributing seven points in the period. The advantage proved insurmountable as Findlay secured a comfortable 22-point victory.

Turnovers played a big part in Saturday's win as the Oilers forced the Arrows into 20 which they were able to turn into 25 points. As a team, Findlay shot 43.9% (29-of-66) from the floor and 29.4% (5-of-17) from deep. Notably, Findlay's bench recorded 33 points compared to Ursuline's 11. 

Senior Kate Ellis, once again led the charge for Findlay. The guard recorded 13 points, going 6-of-10 from the field and a perfect 1-of-1 from the line. Ellis has now recorded 25 consecutive free throws.

Senior Janae Hoying and junior Alyssa Ziehler both chipped in 12 points. Hoying was 3-of-6 from the field, while connecting 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Ziehler nearly recorded the double-double, grabbing nine rebounds. 

The Oilers will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 16 as they take on #15 Ashland in Croy Gymnasium at 5:30pm.
