Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team saw its' nine-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, Jan. 16 at the hands the #14 Ashland Eagles, falling by a score of 82-64. That loss gives the Oilers a 14-4 record overall and is just the second loss in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), falling to 7-2. Ashland improves to 15-3 (7-1) with the win.
The Oilers trailed 17-11 through the first ten minutes of play, but rallied to pull within three at 25-22 with just over three minutes to play in the first half.
Down the stretch, the Eagles used a 12-4 run, hitting three triples along the way, to take back momentum and a 37-26 lead into the break.
Findlay would get the game back to single-digits early in the third, but Ashland proved to be too much on Thursday night, going on to an 18-point victory.
Three-point shooting was a major factor in the contest with the Eagles hitting 10-of-22 (46%) while the Oilers made just 3-of-10 (30%). In total, Ashland hit 29-of-56 (52%) which, when combined with 16 turnovers by Findlay, made a comeback a tall order.
Senior Kate Ellis put forth a solid effort, pouring in a career-high 26 points on 10-of-14 from the floor. She also had four rebounds and two steals. Junior Alyssa Ziehler scored 14 points and had six boards while sophomore Addisyn Freeman scored nine and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Findlay will look to start a new streak on Saturday, Jan. 18 with a game on the road against the Tiffin Dragons. That contest will tip off at 1:00 pm.
