Oilers Drub Dragons on the Road | Win 71-52

Tiffin, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball took on the Dragons of Tiffin University in Gillmor Student Center Saturday, Jan. 18 for a matchup that dates back to 1984. Findlay now holds a 56-13 lead in the series as they added to that today, coming away victorious by a score of 71-52. With the win the Oilers improve to 15-4 on the season with a 8-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, Tiffin falls to 6-11 with a 1-8 record in league play.

The Oilers, who looked to bounce back after a loss on Thursday, opened the first quarter with a five point run to put the Orange and Black ahead early over longtime rival Tiffin. Junior Alyssa Ziehler's layup extended the Oilers' lead to 14 with one minute remaining in the second quarter. However, a late three-pointer by Tiffin trimmed the gap, giving Findlay a 33-22 advantage at halftime.

The Dragons opened the quarter with a three-pointer, cutting Findlay's lead to single digits, but sophomore Taylor Stanley responded with a three-pointer of her own to restore the Oilers' double-digit advantage. From there the Oilers relied on that cushion and cruised to a 19 point victory.

On the day, the Oilers hit 26-of-55 from the floor (47.3%), including 11-of-24 (30.0%) from three-point range. Findlay held Tiffin to a mere 18-of-48 (37.5%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from three. The Oilers capitalized on turnovers, forcing Tiffin into 16 which they turned into 25 points. Findlay also dominated the glass, grabbing an impressive 35 to Tiffin's 23.

The Oilers were led by senior Kate Ellis who recorded eleven points on 5-of-8 from the floor. She also grabbed three rebounds, added two assists, and recorded a steal.

Sophomore Taylor Stanley scored 10 points, including six from beyond the arc—her highest total since recording 11 points against Edinboro in mid-November.

Both Chloe Callahan and Janae Hoying added nine points. The senior duo were both 3-of-6 from deep. Callahan dished out three assists while Hoying added three rebounds and two assists.

Junior Alyssa Ziehler and sophomore Allie Stockton each tallied a game-high nine rebounds and contributed nine points apiece. Ziehler also recorded a career-high, three blocks.

Findlay will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 23 as they welcome the Saints of Thomas More University to Croy Physical Education Center. That game will tipoff at 5:30pm.
