University Center, Mich. – The University of Findlay women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 57-53 win over Saginaw Valley State University on Nov. 15.
The Oilers trailed by a score of 49-46 with just over six minutes to play in the game before closing the contest on an 11-4 run. The game was eventually sealed at the free throw line as the Oilers converted 5-of-6 attempts from the charity stripe in the final 21 seconds of the contest.
Overall the Oilers hit on only 32.8 percent (20-of-61) of their field goal attempts, but were 15-of-19 from the free throw line. The Cardinals meanwhile shot 35.5 percent from the floor and made 8-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe.
Senior
Alyssa Ziehler led Findlay with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She also added nine rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Junior
Allie Stockton recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while junior
Addisyn Freeman contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
The Cardinals were led by Megan McCalla's game-high 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Oilers will be back in action again on Nov. 21 when they host Seton Hill University. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 12pm inside the Croy Physical Education Center.
