Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the Seton Hill University Griffins in a matinee on Friday, Nov. 21 in Croy Gymnasium. Findlay lost the contest by a score of 73-57, suffering its' first defeat of the season, now with a record of 2-1. SHU, which plays in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), improves to 2-2.
Friday's game was a track meet as the Griffins brought a full court press from the very start of the game and pushed the tempo at every opportunity. Findlay struggled a early, trailing by nine midway through the first quarter, but an 11-0 run to end the half put UF in front by a point at the break.
That run continued into the second half, ultimately ending at a 17-0 streak that saw the Oilers take a 40-33 lead early in the third quarter. The game remained close until a 14-0 run by SHU put the visitors firmly in control. The Griffins dominated in the fourth quarter, outscoring Findlay by 13 to go on to a 16-point victory.
Controlled chaos won the day as Seton Hill forced Findlay into 27 turnovers which turned into 25 points. Findlay shot 21-of-61 (34.4%) from the floor and hit just 3-of-16 (18.8%) from three while Seton Hill made 29-of-78 (37.2%) from the floor and outscored the Oilers in the paint 44-to-36.
Senior Alyssa Ziehler led the Oilers with 16 points on 8-of-15 from the floor and recorded a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds. Junior MacKenzie Schulz also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The final double-digit scorer for UF was junior Allie Stockton who scored 12 points.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a home game against Edinboro. That contest will tip at 3:00 pm.
