Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Findlay's Billy Smith, ranked No. 8 nationally at 125 pounds, opened the season in dominant fashion by capturing the championship at the Pioneer Open.

Smith went a perfect 5-0 on the day. In the semifinal, he defeated Emmanuel's No. 27 Braydon Mitchell with a convincing 9-3 decision, then capped off the tournament with a thrilling 15-10 victory over Ashland's No. 6 Luke Acuna in the championship match.
