Findlay Falters Down the Stretch | Drop 49-42 Decision to Walsh

North Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped a 49–42 decision to Walsh University on Thursday, Dec. 11 inside Alumni Arena. The Oilers led for more than 32 minutes and held an early eight-point cushion, but a late Walsh surge proved costly as the Cavaliers limited Findlay to just seven points in the fourth quarter. With the setback, the Oilers move to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Walsh improves to 7-2 and stays unbeaten in the conference at 3-0.

Findlay opened strong with a 6-0 run sparked by senior Alyssa Ziehler's work in the paint. The Oilers controlled the offensive glass, turning rebounds into eight second-chance points and building an eight-point advantage. Walsh ended the quarter with a brief 4-0 surge, but the Oilers still carried a 14-10 lead.

The Oilers maintained control early, pushing the lead to seven after a three-pointer from junior Addison Freeman made it 17-10. Walsh answered with a 5-0 run midway through the quarter. Findlay's defense generated turnovers, but missed free throws, four attempts in the period, kept the margin close. The Oilers entered halftime with a 26-22 advantage.

Findlay pushed the lead to 33-25 with a 7-0 burst led by Freeman and Ziehler. Momentum slowed late in the quarter, allowing Walsh to cut into the margin, but the Oilers still headed into the final period up 35-30.

The fourth quarter proved to be the turning point. Findlay opened the period with a layup to push the lead to seven, but the offense stalled from there. The Oilers missed nine of their final twelve shots and went nearly four minutes without a basket during a pivotal stretch. Turnovers and empty possessions fueled the opponent's momentum, and Findlay struggled to contain transition chances and limit second-chance points. A late three cut the deficit to three, but the comeback fell short as the opponent secured the win at the free-throw line.

Both teams struggled offensively in a defensive battle. Findlay shot 30% from the field (18-of-60), including 4-20 from three (20%) and 2-8 at the line (25%), while Walsh was slightly better at 32.2% (19-of-59), 5-of-28 from deep (17.9%) and 6-of-12 from the line (50%). The Oilers grabbed 43 rebounds compared to Walsh's 46, and both scored 24 points in the paint, but Walsh edged Findlay 11-10 in second-chance points. Fast-break scoring was close, with Walsh leading 6-4, while Findlay held a slight advantage in points off turnovers, 16-13.

Ziehler paced the Oilers with 14 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field while pulling down nine rebounds. Freeman contributed ten points on 3-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and added four rebounds and three assists.

Findlay returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 13, hosting the Northwood Timberwolves at Croy Physical Education Center with tipoff set for 1 pm.
