Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Findlay Dominates Second Half, Secures 83–54 Win at Indianapolis

Durand and Ziehler Record Career Milestones

Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Findlay women's basketball team used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from the Indianapolis Greyhounds on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis, Ind. With the non-conference victory, the Oilers improve to 5-5 on the season, while Indianapolis, of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), falls to 0-10.

The Oilers started slow as Indianapolis jumped out to a 9–5 lead, but Findlay answered with a 6–0 run sparked by freshman Lauryn Auchmuty's three-pointer. The Oilers closed strong behind senior Alyssa Ziehler's inside presence and junior Allie Stockton's perimeter shooting.

In the second quarter, the Oilers locked down defensively, holding the Greyhounds to just 23% shooting. A 9–0 run midway through the quarter, fueled by Ziehler and junior MacKenzie Schulz, pushed the lead to double digits. Findlay entered halftime up 41–28.

Findlay blew the game open with a 13–0 surge early in the third period, highlighted by threes from juniors Schulz and Addisyn Freeman Freeman. UIndy briefly responded with a 6–0 spurt, but the Oilers maintained control, leading 62–45 after three.

The Oilers' bench took over in the final frame. Junior Madison French and Auchmuty drilled threes, and Findlay stretched its lead to 35 points before cruising to the finish.

Crucial in the victory was the Oilers' defense, as they held the Greyhounds to ten points in the second quarter and single-digit scoring in the fourth. Findlay forced 20 turnovers, including 14 steals, and turned those miscues into 25 points. The Oilers were efficient on the offensive end, shooting 54.4 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from three-point range while knocking down 13 triples. It marked the first time Findlay has made 13 or more three-pointers since draining 13 against Lake Erie on Jan. 6, 2018. The team's depth was also evident, as the bench contributed 33 points in the 83–54 victory.

Providing a spark off the bench was Lauryn Auchmuty, who poured in 14 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three, and added two assists.

Alyssa Ziehler led Findlay with 12 points and added seven rebounds, reaching a milestone along the way. Her ninth point of the night pushed her past 1,000 career points, making her the 26th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club.

Also scoring in double figures for the Oilers were MacKenzie Schulz and Allie Stockton. Schulz tallied 12 points, added three assists and knocked down two triples, while Stockton chipped in 11 points and three steals. Taylor Stanley rounded out the balanced offensive attack with eight points and four assists.

With the victory, head coach Michele Durand reached a historic milestone, earning the 500th win of her career. Durand's coaching success includes 46 wins at Findlay, 333 victories during her tenure at Ohio Northern, and 121 wins at Bluffton, cementing her place among the most accomplished coaches in the region.

Findlay returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 20, continuing its five-game road stretch with a trip to Detroit, Mich., to face Wayne State. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
